Abstract

439,714. Directive wireless signalling. BEVAN, R. H. L., and CRAMPTON, C., H.M. Signal School, R.N. Barracks, Portsmouth. Oct. 11, 1934, No. 29098. [Class 40 (v)] In order to maintain a constant phaserelation between the directive limbs A1, A2 and B1, B2 of an Adcock aerial and the associated " open" or sense finding aerial C1, the latter is made of the same height as the directive limbs, is erected at the centre of them, and is terminated by a coiled and screened wire C2, having the same length and electrical constants as C1. There is no pick-up from C1, and the current flowing through the coil L1 is always 90‹ out of phase with that flowing through the field coils F1, F2 of the radiogoniometer for any signal frequency. A further 90‹ phase-shift, making 180‹ in all, is imparted by the tuned circuit L3, C3 interposed on the coupling between the coil L1 and the amplifier or receiver.
