559,718. Inductances. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Aug. 28, 1942, No. 12118. Convention date, July 30, 1941. [Class 38 (ii)] In a device for tuning oscillatory circuits and comprising a coil 1 the inductance of which is varied by movement of a magnetic dust core 6, the latter is provided with electrically conducting elements 7 on its surface so that increase of inductance by insertion of the core within the coil is accompanied by increase in the natural capacity of the coil, thereby extending the tuning range. A small variable condenser 3 may be connected across the coil for fine adjustment, and the effect of the inter-electrode capacity of the associated valve on the capacity of the circuit may be reduced by connecting the grid 4 to an intermediate point on the coil or to the junction of a pair of condensers connected in series across the coil.
