Abstract

202,115. MacCallum, A. H. S. June 20, 1922. Condensers.-Electrical apparatus for use with wireless and other high-frequency circuits comprises an inductance, a conducting shading member movable relatively to the inductance, and a second conducting-member forming with the shading member a condenser. The inductance and the condenser may be connected in parallel, and may be varied simultaneously in the same direction for tuning purposes by moving the shading member. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, the inductance 3 and the fixed member 5 of the condenser are mounted in recesses on the underside of a sheet 1 of insulating-material, and the shading member 9 is secured to a spindle 8 provided with an operating-knob 10. In a modification, Fig. 3, the inductance 12, in the form of a solenoid, and the fixed member of the condenser, in the form of a metal tube 14, are mounted on a cylindrical insulating-carrier 13. The shading member 15 is in cylindrical or part cylindrical form, and may be placed outside the carrier, as shown, or inside the carrier. In another arrangement, the shading member is movable at right-angles to its own plane towards and away from the inductance and the fixed conducting-member.
