Abstract

594,351. Valve generating circuits ; impedance networks. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Nov. 29, 1944, No. 23873. Convention date, Sept. 27, 1943. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXV] In order that the frequency of an oscillator may be stable throughout a selected range of anode voltage, the tuning inductance 5 is provided with an adjustable copper or other non-magnetic core 11 and an adjustable iron or magnetic dust core 12. The coil 5, suitably tapped, is connected to the valve 1 to form a Colpitts oscillator. Fig. 1 (not shown), or a Hartley oscillator, Fig. 2 (not shown). The condenser 6 comprises two sector-shaped plates spaced apart by a washer, and held by a ring 29 sprung into a groove in the insulating tube 27. The circuit is tuned by setting the relative angular position of the sectors 6, and by axially adjusting the copper core 11 by means of the micrometer head 24. The range of anode voltages at which the frequency will be stable, Fig. 3 (not shown), is selected by similar adjustment of the magnetic core 12, the effect of temperature on the valve being neutralized within this range by that on the circuit elements. An electrostatic screen 20 is distanced from the heating effect of the valve by long pins 17.
