[Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] A variable permeability tuning device comprises at least two coaxial inductance windings, an axially movable magnetic core and a switch for connecting the windings in series aiding or parallel aiding relation for operation in different frequency bands. A pair of bi-filar windings 2, 3 are wound in the same direction on an insulating former. The windings are preferably single layer solenoid windings having equal spacing between turns and the same length and diameter. The high potential end of winding 2 is connected to the control grid of a valve 6, which may be the radio frequency amplifier or the converter of a radio receiver. Windings 2 and 3 may be connected in series or parallel by band change switch 8. A trimmer condenser 18 is connected between the high potential end of winding 2 and the earthed low potential end of winding 3. The circuit is tuned by adjusting a ferromagnetic core 17, and the distributed capacity of the windings is such that the range covered with the windings in series does not substantially overlap the range covered with the windings in parallel.
