489,380. Cylinders. AUTO UNION AKT.- GES. Feb. 1, 1937, No. 2927. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1936. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] In a two-stroke engine, in which liquid fuel is injected into a whirling air charge after the closure by the piston of the exhaust ports 3,3<1> and artificially ignited, the inlet ports 2, 2<1> are directed towards the wall opposite the exhaust ports. The liquid fuel injector 8 and the sparking-plug 10 may be located in the cylinder head, as shown, or in opposite side walls. A fuel which vaporizes readily, e.g. petrol, should be used.
