Abstract

489,130. Electron multipliers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and SIMMS, C. H. May 25, 1937, No. 14525. [Class 39 (i)] In a multi-stage secondary emission electron multiplier having a photoelectric cathode, a metallic shield maintained at or near cathode potential is interposed between that part of the cathode on which light falls and leads to other electrodes positive to it and near to it. The shield may be separate from or integral with the cathode and when the latter is of channel section, as described in Specification 478,262, the sides 3 being formed perpendicular to the bottom, the end 9 of the cathode is turned up as shown so that the bottom surface on which the light falls is shielded from the leads 6 to the more positive and succeeding electrodes 4, 5. Specification 469,283 also is referred to.
