Abstract

446,833. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and MITCHELL, J. H., 8, Graham Road, Rugby. Nov. 6, 1934, No. 31911. [Class 39 (i)] A lamp comprises a condenser within the envelope having one plate connected to an electrode lead and the other plate connected to or constituting an auxiliary electrode adjacent the other electrode for initiating the discharge. In the singleended lamp shown, the lead A to the electrode C2 remote from the pinch is surrounded by an insulating sheath M on which is mounted a conductive band S, serving as auxiliary electrode and constituting with the lead A a condenser. The band S may extend the whole length of the lead A and may be covered with insulating material on which, in turn, another conductive band may be mounted. Alternatively, a separate condenser may be connected to the lead A and shielded by insulation from the discharge.
