Abstract

487,257. Thermionic valves. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., and SMITHELLS, C. J. Feb. 2, 1937, No. 3064. [Class 39 (i)] In thermionic valves having a filamentary cathode adapted to operate at a temperature not exceeding 1500‹ C., e.g. an oxide-coated filament, the filament is supported substantially along the whole of its active length by a plate of insulating material on one side of which it rests and which carries on the same side at least one of the electrodes with which it co-operates. As shown a helical filamentary oxide-coated cathode 9 lies between ridges on a steatite plate 2 supported in an approximately cylindrical bulb 1 by the leading in wires 3, 4, 5, 6 passing through a ring seal 7. The grid 10 and anode 11 are both cylindrical and are fixed by tags entering holes in the plate 1. Specification 290,355, [Class 39 (i)], is referred to.
