Abstract
974,970. Thermionic valves. M-O VALVE CO. Ltd., and C. E. ISELY. March 5, 1962 [March 3, 1961], No. 7850/61. Heading H1D. In an electric discharge device, a pair of electrodes are spaced apart by at least one insulated wire sandwiched between parallel planar surfaces of the electrodes, the or each wire not otherwise serving to support either electrode. As shown, two alumina-coated tungsten wires 19, extending transversely of the tube axis, are sandwiched between cathode 2 and grid 3 and have uncoated end portions welded to the grid 3. The cathode is of rectangular section and extends through apertures in mica discs 7, 8, portions 20 of the mica discs acting as flexed tongues which press the cathode into contact with coated wires 19. The grid 3 comprises parallel wires 18 stretched across a rectangular aperture in a grid frame formed with locating tags 16. The anode 4 comprises a plate mounted on two metal rods 22 which extend through ceramic eyelets in discs 7, 8. The discs 7, 8 are spaced by four metal rods 9 located in metal eyelets 10.
