Abstract
339,022. General Electric Co., Ltd., and Ryde, J. W. Sept. 19, 1929. Metallic-vapour apparatus. - To prevent back-ignition in mercury-vapour rectifiers, an electrically conducting body such as an iron or tungsten ring 3, Fig. 1, is arranged within the anode shield 2 and set round about the anode in spaced relationship thereto, and extends downwardly in an axial direction to a point adjacent the working face of the anode without constricting or dividing the path between the cathode and the anode. The ring may be supported by steatite members 4. In a modification, a projecting arm, which forms the anode shield, is provided with grids which may be connected to, or insulated from, the arm and are formed with sector-shaped channels.
