Abstract

421,795. Metallic-vapour apparatus. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London. Oct. 2, 1934, No. 28191. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1933. [Class 39 (i)] A grid of a vapour-arc converter is secured to the anode shield through a resilient ring which completely embraces it. A grid 2, Fig. 1, is secured within a conducting or insulating shield 1 through a coiled ring 3 which is housed within grooves in the shield and grid. The grid may consist of a disc, provided with slots or holes which may be of varying size, or of a ring holding straight or S-shaped rods. In a modification the grid consists of a number of rods 12, Fig. 5, spaced apart by insulators, or of a number of abutting plates which are suitably shaped, the grid members being secured together and to a ring 15 through a coiled ring 16. The ring 15 is supported through rods 13 by means housed in a cage 14 attached to the shield 1. In a further modification, the grid 22, Fig. 7, is secured to the shield through a resilient sheet-metal conical ring 23, which may be provided with bosses engaging in recesses in the grid. The grid may consist of or be coated with, iron, molybdenum, or tungsten or an alloy thereof, a carbon compound, graphite or an insulating- material.
