Abstract
479,699. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 13, 1936, No. 31058. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] An electric discharge device is provided with a structure for supporting the anode independently of the cathode and grid members, which also serves as a shield to prevent the deposition of getter material on the electrodes or the insulation between the electrodes. In the form shown, a metal envelope 1 is closed at one end by a member 2 to which is secured a cylindrical shield 16 having outwardly flanged edges. The anode 11 is supported from the shield by mica strips 15 secured by eyelets 17, and the getter is located in a pocket 20 in the space between the shield and the envelope. When the getter is vaporized by heating the pocket 20, the flange 18 acts as a nozzle to direct the vapour away from the electrode structure. The remaining electrodes are supported independently of the anode by insulating spacers 13, the upper spacer having a flanged portion engaging the reduced end of the envelope. When the anode is at the same potential as the envelope, the strips 15 may be metallic'. Specification 443,767 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the anode and shield may be made in one piece. Alternatively, the anode may be supported independently of the shield 16 or may form the envelope. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
