Abstract

541,664. Electron oscillators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and GOODCHILD, F. D. June 4, 1940, No. 9762. [Class 39 (i)] An ultra-short wave oscillator wherein a beam of electrons pass through a resonator such as described in Specifications 516,750 and 537,490 has a metal envelope A in thermal conductive relation with the resonator F, the envelope having a channelled part A<SP>1</SP> to accommodate electrodes. These consist of a flat cathode C, a control grid G and a backing electrode J on one side only of the cathode, the whole being supported through mica plates M by rods R; these are either welded to straps N around the resonator or are riveted to the resonator which has an inlet grid S. The wall of the resonator acts as collector. The metal envelope is cooled' by air or water cooling ; it is sealed to a glass base G through which pass the leads E. This compact assembly allows the focusing magnets to be placed near the resonator. Power is taken off by the lead C passing through the tube D.
