[Class 38 (ii)] [See also Group XL] In an arc converter, e.g. a rectilier, one or more electrodes 15 are disposed in the arc path and are connected to intermediate points of a potential divider 23 which is connected between the anode and cathode and may consist of condensers or resistances, and the control grid 17 is arranged between the electrodes 15 and the cathode. The capacities of the condensers of the potential divider should be such that their charging currents are larger than the grid currents which flows at the termination of each conducting halfcycle. The grid 17 may be connected to the cathode through control apparatus 22.
