Abstract

481,789. Discharge apparatus. SCHUMANN, W. O. June 12, 1936, No. 16461. Convention date, March 9, 1936. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 14, 1936.] [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXV] In an arrangement for quenching the arc in a discharge device by the application of a potential impulse to a control grid, combinations of capacities, inductances, resistances and spark gaps are associated with the grid circuit to prevent re-ignition due to excess voltages produced in the circuit by the arc quenching. The quenching potential may be supplied to the grid 4, Fig. 2, through a transformer 7 and spark gaps 5. The device 1 is connected through a load resistance 2 to the voltage source 3. A capacity 6 is connected in parallel with the transformer secondary and a capacity 9 and a resistance or capacity 10 are connected between the grid and the anode and cathode. Further capacities &c. may be connected in the circuit. In another form, a capacity 11, Fig. 3, is connected between the grid and cathode, and a valve 12 and resistance 13 are connected in parallel between the grid and anode. The grid of the valve 12 may be connected to a tapping on the resistance 13. The anode of the device 1 may be connected to a tapping on a resistance between the grid and cathode of the valve 12 and the condenser 11 is then connected to a tapping on a resistance between the grid 4 and the cathode. In a further form, condensers 14, 15, Fig. 4, are connected between the anode and cathode and the point of connection between the condensers is connected as shown. Rectifiers may be connected in series with the condensers and with the spark gap 5. The discharge device may have a number of grids which may be connected simultaneously to the quenching potential. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that a condenser 6, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), may be connected between the grid and anode and an oscillatory circuit 17, 18, 19 may be provided. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
