Abstract
440,399. Converting. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. March 28, 1934, No. 9708. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 1, 1934]. [Class 38 (ii)] Relates to an arc rectifier arrangement in which ignition is effected by a high voltage periodically applied to the anodes and consists in inserting the ignition switches in the leads adjacent to the anodes. In the form shown a condenser 3, charged from an A.C. circuit through an auxiliary rectifying device 2, is periodically connected across the discharge gaps 8 by means of switches 5 which may be controlled auxiliary discharge devices or in the form of a rotary distributer. The moment of ignition can be controlled by altering the moment of ignition of the auxiliary discharge devices or by shifting the stator of the distributer. In a modification the condenser is connected through a step-up transformer. In this form in addition to the switch 5 in the secondary circuit of the transformer a further switch is arranged in the primary circuit, this switch being closed each time a secondary circuit is completed.
