Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 17, 1934]. [Class 38 (ii)] In an inverter comprising valves 2, 3, means are provided for applying a negative voltage of peaked waveform to the grid to the grid of the valve from which current is being commutated to effect deionization. The grids are supplied from a transformer 8 having a primary winding connected across the main transformer 4 through a resistance 9 and additional primary windings 17, 18 which are in series in the anode circuits of the valves 2, 3. At the moment of commutation from, e.g. valve 2 to valve 3, the sudden rush of current through the winding 18 induces a voltage of peaked waveform in the secondary winding supplying the grids, this impulse making the grid of the valve 2 negative. In a modification the transformer 8 has one auxiliary winding which is connected in series with the condenser 7.
