407,458. Current and pressure meters; transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, BLIGH, N. R., and SMYTH, C. N., c /o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Nov. 14, 1932, No. 32161. [Class 37.] An anode-bend thermionic valve voltmeter is provided with a ganged pair of switches 3 for range-changing so that the anode voltage and grid bias are altered concurrently. Preferably the switches are of rotary form and their operation slightly staggered so that resistance values are inincreased before voltage increases. A switch 5 operating a compensating resistance 4 for zero anode current adjustment may be ganged with the switch gang 3. The grid lead 2 is brought out free from the remaining leads and a decoupling resistance 6 is provided, together with an earthing switch 9. A battery eliminator for supplying the voltmeter has one or two screens between the primary and secondary windings one of the screens 7<2> being earthed and the other 7<3> being connected to the mid-point of the high voltage winding. If one screen is employed, a small condenser may be provided to equalize any difference of capacity between the capacities of the winding halves to the screen. A barretter, or a hand adjustment resistance 7<4>, is provided for maintaining the supply volts constant and a gas discharge tube V for keeping the eliminator output volts constant. Separate cases for the transformer, rectifying valves and smoothing circuits, and for the instrument circuits may be interconnected by screened leads.
