Abstract
232,593. Haefely et Cie Akt.-Ges., E. April 16, 1924, [Convention date]. Addition to 221,495. Pressure meters.-In apparatus for measuring the maximum value of the pressure in a hightension alternating-current circuit by measurement of the mean value of the charging-circuit of a condenser as described in the parent Specification, a section c, Fig. 2, of the condenser c is connected to earth through two opposed thermionic valves a, b, in series with one of which is a moving-coil or other measuring instrument e. In the circuit of the two valves a, b, is connected a source of counter electromotive force such as a primary or polarization cell d, to counteract the electromotive force due to the heated cathodes which tends to send a current through the valves in series. In order to correct for the alteration in potential of one condenser plate due to the cell d, a primary battery E, or other source of electromotive force is connected in series with the condenser. In order to utilize both halves of the rectified wave, the measuring-instrument e may be differentially wound, one winding being connected in series with each of the valves a, b. The cathodes of the valves may be heated by alternating current. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which a negative booster transformer h is connected between the condenser and rectifier circuit, one winding being connected between the measuring section c of the condenser C and the rectifier circuit, and the other winding being interposed between the other condenser sections c<1> and earth. Alternatively the sections c' may be connected to earth through a resistance giving the same voltage drop as takes place in the measuring circuit. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7, the thermionic valves are replaced by neon tubes, in which case a battery giving an electromotive force of 100 volts or more is required. This may be divided into two parts s, each connected in series with one tube.
