Abstract

693,177. Converting. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DALE, S. H. Dec. 6, 1951 [Sept. 18, 1950], No. 20537/50. Class 38 (ii). [Also in Groups XXXVI and XXXVII] In a converting circuit including a vapour arc converter 10 in which, as in the circuits described in Specification 692,494, reversal of D.C. current through a shunt 13 is used to indicate the fault or suppress conduction through the converter, the rise in anode volts of the triode 20 is transmitted to the control electrode of a tetrode 61 which thereupon conducts. Its anode current drawn from battery 32 through the primary winding of a transformer 62 induces current in the secondary windings 63. These may operate circuitbreakers or other protective means such as are described in Specifications 598,161 and 692,494, to disconnect the faulty, and, if desired, other converters.
