Abstract

815,109. Rectifying. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 29, 1956 [March 3, 1955], No. 6337/56. Class 38 (2). To supply high voltage direct current to a load such as X-ray tube 19, the terminals of a main rectifying circuit which are respectively positive and negative to earth potential, are connected to the centre taps of secondary windings of transformers 10, 12, the ends of which are connected to the anodes and cathodes respectively of pairs of rectifiers 15, 16 and 17, 18, the cathodes and anodes of which pairs are connected respectively together and to the terminals of the load 19. The main rectifying circuit comprises four bridge-connected rectifiers 5, 6, 7, 8, supplied from the secondary winding 3 of a transformer 1 having its centre point earthed. Where a three-phase source is available, the D.C. source may comprise starconnected transformer windings with earthed neutral connected to three pairs of bridgeconnected rectifiers, and the transformers 10, 12 are replaced by three-phase transformers having secondary windings, each connected to a rectifier, Fig. 2 (not shown). By connection of the windings, of the three transformers in suitable phase relationship, the slight increase in voltage in the leads to the load resulting from ripple, may be nullified, Fig. 3 (not shown).
