To prevent reverse current flow in a polyphase mechanical contact rectifier under disturbed conditions, the circuit is so arranged that while the output characteristic is only slightly inclined at full load, there is a sudden rise in the output volts as no load is approached. This may be achieved by a supply transformer arrangement which includes an interphase transformer. For rectifying a three-phase supply to supply a D.C. line g, the supply transformer may comprise three single-phase secondary windings c, d, e with ends connected to contacts k1-k6 through switching chokes f1- f6, the centre taps of the secondary windings being connected to the zig-zag wound interphase transformer h.
