732,230. Supply systems for welding arcs. FOSTER TRANSFORMERS, Ltd., [formerly FOSTER TRANSFORMERS & SWITCHGEAR, Ltd.], and JENNINGS, R. E. Jan. 28, 1953 [Feb. 1, 1952], No. 2752/52. Class 38 (4). In order to suppress, or accentuate, a D.C. component in an A.C. arc-welding circuit caused by partial rectification at the arc W, one side of the welding circuit is connected to the welding transformer T through a resistor R and half-wave rectifier WR which are arranged in series across tappings of the transformer, as shown. The voltage tapped off may be adjustable, as also may be the value of the resistor R. The system is of particular use in conjunction with a monatomic gas shield around the arc.
