883,223. Supply systems for welding arcs. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION Aug. 12, 1959 [Aug. 20, 1958], No. 27543/59. Classes 38 (2) and 38 (4). In a welding system as disclosed in Specification 718,871 wherein a transformer T having a main secondary winding TR supplying an arc welding circuit SL1, SL2 through rectifiers 56a-56f and variable reactors TV1-TV3 and an additional secondary winding also connected to the welding circuit through further rectifiers, the additional winding CAD is coupled to one of the reactor windings so that an increase in the main welding current due to a short circuit induces a higher voltage in the additional winding to burn out the short circuit. The winding CAD is held externally to the other windings by means of a clip 11 so that it may be easily replaced, and the 3-phase arrangement of the earlier Specification is replaced by a singlephase circuit. A circuit breaker 15 and rheostat 13 control the additional current.
