421,221. Converting. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Nov. 16, 1933, No. 31967. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1932. [Class 38 (ii)] Relates to a converting arrangement comprising a discharge device 3 having two groups I, II of anodes fed from the secondary winding of a transformer 1, the star points of these windings being interconnected through an interphase transformer 7, 8 and consists in supplying the grids of anode groups I, II from sources 4, 5 of control potential means being provided for simultaneously advancing the phase of the voltage applied to one group and retarding the phase of the voltage applied to the other group. By this means the voltage of the arrangement operating either as an inverter or as a rectifier can be regulated over a wide range yet retaining a good power factor on the A.C. side. The control can be modified so that arrangement operates with a leading power factor. Specification 409,331, [Group XL], is referred to.
