379,198. Rectifying alternating current. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Jan. 7, 1932, No. 475. Convention date, Jan. 7, 1931. [Class 38 (ii).] In a grid-regulated metal vapour rectifier system wherein the grids are subjected to the resultant of a D.C. voltage and an A.C. voltage, the latter is caused to have a steep wave form at the point of ignition by superimposing upon the fundamental an odd harmonic, preferably the third. The latter may be produced by causing the grid transformer D to operate at saturation, or it may be taken from the interphase transformer C, Fig. 4, associated with the main transformer B feeding the anodes, or it may be derived from the three-phase exciter transformer K, Fig. 5, for the exciter anodes of the rectifier.
