[Class 38 (ii)] In a converting or frequencychanging arrangement comprising a rectifier and an inverter connected in parallel circulating currents are reduced by operating the rectifier at a reduced voltage. This may be effected by retarding the ignition in a grid controlled arrangement, the amount of retardation being equal to the amount of advancement of the ignition in the inverter. Alternatively, the A.C. voltage applied to the rectifier is made lower than that applied to the inverter chokes D, which may be interlinked, may be inserted in series in the cathode leads.
