Abstract

381,685. Rectifying alternating current. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Sept. 4, 1931, No. 24863. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1930. [Class 38 (ii).] In metal vapour rectifier installations in which .resistances 9 are connected between the anodes 2 and the cathode 3 for use as potential dividers from which voltages are tapped for energizing the grids in such manner as to prevent back ignition, the resistances employed are of such character that they serve also to protect the rectifier from excess voltages. For the latter purpose, it is essential that the resistances should be non-inductive and preferably they are of a material the resistance of which decreases rapidly with increase in the voltage applied thereto. Silicon carbide is given as an example of a material having the desired characteristics.
