[Class 39 (i).] Metallic parts within a metallic vapour rectifier are protected from secondary discharges by insulated metal grids which are situated in the paths of the secondary discharges but clear of the path of the main discharge and to which is applied a constant or periodically varying potential. In the form shown, the anode shield 4, the container and the cooling coil are protected by grids 5 .. 8 respectively.
