Aug. 29, 1931, No. 24361. Convention date, Aug. 29, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v).] Glow - d is c harge tubes with cold electrodes are provided with one or more grids near or between the electrodes to prevent the discharge until a particular voltage or voltage impulse is applied to the grid circuit, the tube acting as a relay. One of the main electrodes may be small to give a rectifying action, the grid being near the large electrode. The grid may be between the cathode and the Faraday dark space. Direct potentials may be applied to the grids and to the electrodes or, if alternating potentials are applied to the main electrodes 1, 2, the grids 3, 4 are supplied with potentials of varying phase by coils 5, a variable condenser 9 and resistance 8 determining the phase. The discharge starts when the grid voltage is not in phase with the voltage on the electrodes 1, 2.
