Abstract

426,148. Converting. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Dec. 19, 1933, No. 35700. Convention date, March 7. [Class 38 (ii)] A rectifier supplying an inductive load is protected against back ignition and short circuit by means which momentarily displace the ignition point of the anodes and cause the arrangement to operate as an inverter. In the form shown in the Figure the grid circuit of the discharge device 4 is normally disconnected, but when overload occurs a coil 8 supplied from a current transformer 7 completes the grid circuit so that the grids receive impulses from the distributer 13 which are approximately 180‹ phase displaced from the corresponding anode potentials. In a modification to obtain grid control for voltage regulation a further distributer is mounted on the shaft of the motor 14, this distributer being connected to the supply 9 during normal operation but disconnected and the distributer 13 connected when back ignition or short circuit occurs. Regulation is obtained by shifting the angular position of the distributer stator. If regulation is to be effected only within narrow limits a single distributer having two brushes angularly displaced 180‹ may be used. Specification 390,914 is referred to.
