Abstract

644,014. Rectifying. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 28, 1947, No. 11263. Convention date, Jan. 31, 1945. [Class 38 (ii)] In converting apparatus, particularly for high voltage low-current circuits, comprising relatively rotating sets of contacts between which current is conveyed by mechanical engagement of the contacts or by sparks, current is suppressed during part of each commutation period, e.g. by an electronic valve with the grid controlled by an auxiliary commutator as shown, the load includes a heating inductance 3 fed by a high power triode 1 which also senses to suppress current at the instant of commutation when its grid is polarized by means of the auxiliary commutator 20, 22. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), wherein current is suppressed by auxiliary rectifiers 49<SP>1</SP>, 50<SP>1</SP> connected to the rotary contacts 49, 50 while the fixed contacts 41-46 are connected to the phases of transformer 47, the load 48 being connected as shown. The ignition of the arc is caused alternately across blades 49, 50 by coils 51, 52 coupled to coils 51<SP>1</SP>, 52<SP>1</SP> which receive the discharge of a condenser 55 periodically by means of the distributer 58, the condenser being continually recharged from source 56. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
