406,045. Converting. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges. ; 2, Friedrich Karl- Ufer, Berlin.) July 22, 1932, No. 20727. Convention date, July 22, 1931. [Class 38 (ii).] A system for supp'ying 3-phase current to mains 2 from continuous-current mains 1 comprises transformers 3, 4 and valves 6 which are momentarily rendered conductive through negative grid-bias, switched on by a commutator 14. A wattless current generator 5, connected across the mains 2 may be a condenser, choke or rotating machine. The secondaries 9 of transformers 8 are included in the anode circuits and the primaries are energized by machines 11, 13. The machine 11 generates a current proportional to the load current and compensates the flux produced in transformers 8 by the load through the secondaries 9. The commutating machine 13 generates current in primaries 10 so that at the beginning and end of the conducting period of a valve the current through it is rapidly increased and decreased respectively.
