Abstract

521,920. Converting. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and THOMPSON, W. G. Nov. 28, 1938, No. 34609. [Class 38 (ii)] A D.C. load 1 is supplied from an A.C. source 2 through a converter 3, and excess voltage across the load 1 due to regeneration is prevented by connecting resistances 17 across the load 1 by means of a grid-controlled converter 20. Grids 23, normally negatively biased by battery 26, are successively made positive upon the occurrence of over-voltage across the load by potentiometers 28. The discharge to one or more of the anodes 19 is extinguished by it being communated to an auxiliary electrode 30 energized with A.C. The grid 34, associated with the electrode 30, is controlled according to cathode currents of the converters 3, 20 by a saturated transformer structure 16 energized from an A.C. supply 46.
