Abstract

435,442. Converting. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. May 30, 1935, No. 15788. Convention date, May 31,1934. [Class 38 (ii)] [See also Group XL] Thermionic valves and other incandescent cathode discharge apparatus such as rectifiers and inverters are protected during starting by the provision of starting resistances with negative temperature coefficient in the anode circuit. The resistance 9 may be of uranium dioxide and may be inserted in the positive or negative supply lead to the load 8 or, as shown, in the case of a rectifier in the connection to the anodes. With a direct current supply to an amplifier the resistance is connected in the anode supply lead to prevent the flow of heavy anode currents before the cathodes are fully heated.
