Abstract

439,331. Converting. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Dec. 19, 1934, No. 36435. Convention date, Dec. 22, 1933. [Class 38 (ii)] In a converting arrangement having discharge devices with thermionic cathodes, the cathode temperature is maintained constant despite load variations by means of a reactor, normally saturated but the saturation of which is varied in dependence on the load. The filaments of the valves 13, 14 are supplied from a transformer having a choke 23, in series in the primary supply, having a saturating winding 24 supplied through an auxiliary rectifying bridge 25 and constant current device 28 to maintain the choke normally saturated, and a winding 29 in series with the D.C. load circuit 11 and acting in opposition to the winding 24 to reduce the saturation as the load increases. In this way the supply to the filament reduces as the load increases.
