[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVI] To maintain constant the electron emission from the thermionic cathode 2 of an ionisation gauge 1, the filament 2 is fed from the mains transformer 10 through a saturable-reactor 27. The grid 3 is positively biassed, and variations in the resultant grid current cause corresponding variations in the bias applied to a pentode 31. The pentode, anode current flows through the D.C. winding of the reactor 27 and adjusts the impedance thereof in the corrective sense to stabilize the filament current and hence the filament emission.
