Abstract

936,253. Automatic current control. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 20, 1961 [Jan. 23, 1960], No. 2388/61. Class 38 (4). A system for stabilizing the discharge current of an X-ray tube 6 supplied from a high voltage source 3 comprises a resistor 9 in the anode circuit of the tube, a D.C. amplifier 24, a filament transformer 11, and a control device 15 in the supply to the transformer 11. Deviations of the discharge current from a value selected on a potentiometer 29 cause variations in the potential across the resistor 9, which variations are applied to the amplifier 24, the output of which controls the device 15 so that the filament current is varied in a sense to maintain the discharge current at the selected value. The device 15 may be a saturable reactor or, as shown, may comprise a transformer having a primary winding 16 in series with the primary winding 12 of the filament transformer, and a secondary winding 17 in two parts short circuited by triode valves 18 to the control electrodes 19 of which is applied the output from the amplifier 24. A resistor 27 in the input to the amplifier 24 and a feedback capacitor 30 across the amplifier are provided to increase the stability of the control system.
