Abstract

687,219. Automatic voltage control systems. CINEMA-TELEVISION, Ltd. Sept. 28, 1951 [Sept.. 29, 1950], No. 23860/50. Class 38 (iv). In a voltage stabilizer of the type having a regulating valve in series with the load controlled by a valve which compairs the output voltage with a reference voltage, the comparison valve has a directly heated cathode supplied from the stabilized output of the circuit. The regulating valve 31 is controlled via a cathode coupled amplifier 25, 26 by the directly heated tetrode 17 to the control grid of which is applied the reference voltage across a gas discharge tube 20, whilst a portion of the output voltage, determined by the potential divider 18, 19, is applied to the cathode. The cathode filament current is substantially constant despite variation in the valve of resistor 18 since the action of the stabilizer ensures that the voltage across resistor 18 is substantially constant. Positive feed-back from the anode of valve 25 to valve 17 increases the gain of the system. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the cathode coupled amplifier is omitted.
