Abstract
599,080. Frequency modulation; pulse generating circuits. CURRAH, L. E. April 23, 1945, No. 10214. [Class 40 (v)] A frequency control valve is connected across the gridcathode circuit of either or each valve of a multi-vibrator so that the control valve anode is connected to the cathode of the multivibrator valve the control valve changing from diode to triode operation or vice versa according to the value of a D.C. voltage applied to its grid thus compensating for random variations in an applied D.C. voltage or fortuitous fluctuations in the circuit frequency. The frequency of a multivibrator. Fig. 2, is varied in accordance with the magnitude of a control voltage applied to the grids of each of the control valves 1, 2, which are connected between the grids and cathodes of the oscillating valves 3, 4. The negative terminals of the separate sources of the control voltages are connected to the grids of the control valves, and are insulated from each other. The oscillating valves 3, 4 are preferably of the variable-mu type. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) and Fig. 4, the control voltages are applied between the grid and anode of the valves 1, 2 so that the valves operate as diodes when the control voltages are zero, but gradually change to triode operation as the grids become increasingly negative. The grids of the oscillating valves 3, 4 are grounded through high resistances R1, R2. The output of valve 4 is fed through an integrating network to an amplifier 5 which is provided with an A.V.C. voltage derived from the output of the multivibrator through rectifier 11 and the associated circuit elements. The H.T. supply for the oscillating valves 3, 4 is stabilized by means of a valve 8, and the output of amplifier 5 is taken off through a transformer 10.
