Abstract

563,222. Thermionic valve circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and LEVY, M. M. Jan. 29, 1943, No. 1538. [Class 40 (v)] The operation of a thermionic valve circuit supplied from a source of variable voltage is stabilized by the provision of a stabilizing valve to which the voltage variations are applied and from the anode-cathode circuit of which voltages are derived and applied to a grid so as to maintain the performance constant. The Figure shows an arrangement in which the variation in the high tension supply is applied to the grid of an auxiliary valve V0 after reduction through an appropriate number of neon discharge tubes N1 ... N3 which supplies the screen grid voltages to the operative valves V1, V2. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the auxiliary valve supplies the control grid voltages to the operative valves, the voltage being reduced by one or more neon discharge tubes. The use of neon discharge tubes may be dispensed with, but a less effective control is obtained and when the control grid bias is controlled the cathode biassing resistances associated with the valves may be variable to obtain an appropriate grid bias for the operative valves.
