Abstract
743,887. Automatic control systems for H.F. furnaces. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 23, 1954 [Oct. 2, 1953], No. 27097/53. Class 38 (4). In a high-frequency furnace in which the oscillator is supplied with high tension from grid controlled rectifiers, the bias on which is determined by the conductivity of a thermionic diode as in Specification 670,498, the diode filament is energized in accordance with the magnitude of the high tension current drawn by the oscillator so as to keep the output power substantially constant despite changes in output loading. The rectifiers V1, V2, V3 supplying the oscillator (not shown) have their grids connected to a star-connected secondary T1S of the main supply transformer (not shown), the star point having a D.C. bias tapped off potential divider VR1 via a cathode follower V4. The bias is varied by a diode V5 shunting the input ; and the heater of this diode is connected across a shunt, Fig. 1 (not shown), in the H.T. line between the rectifiers and the oscillator.
