Abstract
688,857. Cathode-ray tubes. WHITE-IBBOTSON, Ltd. July 26, 1951 (Aug. 1, 1950; Sept. 13, 1950], Nos. 19223/50 and 22556/50. Class 39(i) [Also in Group XXXV] A circuit arrangement for stabilising the focus of the electron beam of a cathode-ray tube comprises an E.H.T. generating unit of the saw tooth oscillatory type wherein potential variations in the value of the E.H.T. due to variations in the beam current of the tube are fed back from a winding S4 on the output transformer to the control grid 2 of the generating valve DV, the variations appear ing in an amplified form at the screen grid 3 of the valve DV and fed to the screen grid 4 of the focus valve FV, which has the focus coil FC in its anode circuit, thereby altering the current in the focus coil, the combination of the two feed back components being such as to keep the focus of the tube constant irrespective of variations in the beam current. Various other methods of deriving the potential applied to the valve FV are described in one of which compensation is effected for variations in the temperature-and thus the resistance-of the focus coil FC.
