Abstract

563,569. Valve generating circuits. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 27, 1943, No. 1364. Convention date, Jan. 27, 1942. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] In a saw-tooth current generator an electron discharge device is used having two control electrodes, on one of which a regenerative voltage is impressed in response to output current variations while on the other a degenerative voltage is impressed dependent on anode voltage variations to linearise the wave-form. Fig. 1 shows a beam power tetrode operating as a blocking oscillator with a degenerative feedback produced by the non-inductive impedance network 25, 27 connected between the screen grid and the cathode and having a time-constant shorter than the fundamental period of the oscillations. Adjustment of resistance 25 provides the linearity control, while resistance 22 provides the speed control, capacity 27 may be comprised wholly by inherent self-capacities. Distortion of waveform due to parasitic oscillation is suppressed by the resistance-condenser combination 28, 29. Alternatively, the condenser 29 may be replaced by an inductance or the damping circuit may be connected across the deflecting coils. Synchronizing impulses are applied to the control grid 12 through the input coupling network 31, 32. If the complete television signal 35 is applied to the grid 12, the positive bias of this grid is so adjusted that only the most negative portions of the wave are effective to trigger the oscillator. In a modification, Fig. 2, a pentode is used and an adjustable tapping 45 is provided to adjust the grid bias for synchronizing and to provide an auxiliary linearity control. Specification 523,476 is referred to.
