719,915. Automatic gain control; pulse radar. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 27, 1952 [Nov. 30, 1951], No. 30087/52. Classes 40 (5) and 40 (7) In a rapidly acting automatic gain control circuit for a radar receiver, of the type in which the output of the A.G.C. rectifier is fed through a cathode follower to the controlled stage, means are provided for open-circuiting the anode cathode path of the cathode follower at a point which is at earth potential for radio frequencies so that the gain control may be rendered inoperative. The output of amplifier V2 is rectified in a valve V4 connected as a diode, the output of which is fed through a cathode follower to control the gain of amplifier V2. Means (not shown) are provided between the anode of V5 and the lower end of R4 for interrupting the circuit to disable the A.G.C. The connection of the cathode of V4 to the cathode of V5 provides a regenerative action for the A.G.C. voltage. Valve V4 may alternatively be arranged as an anode bend detector, Fig. 2 (not shown).
