Abstract

563,034. Wireless receiving circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES. Ltd., HOLLAND, J. D., and ROBINSON, D. D. Jan. 22, 1943, No. 1174. [Class 40 (v)] In a receiver embodying a thermionic amplifying stage provided with automatic gain control arrangements, a rectifier adapted to limit the signal applied to the amplifying stage is provided and so arranged as not to be adversely affected by the action of the gain controlling voltage. The Figure shows an arrangement in which the limiter D is connected to the grid of the amplifier through a blocking condenser C5 and the gain control voltage is applied through a resistance R1. As shown, the limiter is in parallel with the tuned input circuit and in series with a source of biassing potential. Alternatively, the bias may be derived from the cathode resistance R2 so that the automatic gain control serves to augment the action of the limiting means. Instead of a diode a copper oxide or selenium rectifier may be used.
