Abstract

604,763. Saw-tooth generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. May 25, 1945, No. 13072. Convention date, May 25, 1944. [Class 40 (vi)] A single stroke saw-tooth generating circuit comprises a cathode coupled flip-flop with a capacitor between the anode of the normally conducting valve to earth. The anode of valve 10 is coupled over one of a series of capacitors 36 to a normally conducting valve 12 having a capacitor 54 connected between the anode and earth, the back coupling being effected over the common cathode load 16. A positive triggering signal, applied to the grid of valve 10 causes the valves to reverse their state, capacitor 54 charging over the anode resistor 64 until the valves revert to normal, the capacitor then discharging through valve 12. The diode 68 causes the effective gain of valve 10 to be low in the normal state so that while conducting to a small extent, it is insufficient to cause valve 12 to be rendered non-conducting, the circuit being sensitive to small amplitude triggering signals. Diode 70 ensures that in the normal state valve 12 passes sufficient current to provide the necessary bias potential across resistor 16. A coarse adjustment of the duration and slope of the sawtooth may be made by the ganged switches controlling capacitors 36, 54, fine adjustment being made by ganged resistors 48, 64.
