711,072. Television. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and GRIFFITH, G. W. S. Sept. 19, 1952 [Oct. 25, 1951, No. 25003/51. Class 40 (3). [Also in Group XL(c)] A circuit for amplifying television or like signals, i.e. signals comprising rectangular pulses of one polarity with respect to a datum level and further components of opposite polarity, incorporates a single pentode 1 and is arranged to provide two outputs, one from across cathode load 5, 6 and corresponding to the whole of the input signal and the other from across anode load 7 and corresponding to the rectangular pulses. The input signal is applied at terminals 2 with the rectangular pulses in a negative-going direction, and the effective suppressor grid bias due to the drop across resistors 3, 4 and 5 is selected so that the anode current is cut off for input signals positive in excess of the datum level. Accordingly anode current is allowed to flow only during the rectangular pulses to produce a corresponding output voltage across resistor 7. In the case of a pentode having a short suppressor grid base, the suppressor grid may be returned to a voltage positive with respect to earth obtained from a potentiometer connected across voltage source 8. Also the screen decoupling condenser 10 may be returned to cathode and resistor 4 omitted. Suitable component values are given for the circuit shown.
