Abstract
582,836. Pulse generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 15, 1944, No. 17689. Convention date, Sept 23, 1943. [Class 40 (v)] In a time base circuit in which a condenser is discharged by a gas-filled triode in response to a pulse to produce a saw-tooth, a diode is arranged to conduct when the condenser is charged to a certain level, the potential produced by the diode current flowing through a resistance, feeding a D.C. amplifier, the output of which is applied to the control grid of a cathode-ray tube. A positive pulse applied to the grid of gas-filled valve 1, causes it to fire and discharge condenser 10, the condenser recharging, at a rate determined by the variable resistance 9, until the diode 12 conducts. The diode is maintained conducting, except for the duration of the saw-tooth wave, while condenser 10 is charging, the potential across resistance 14, carrying the diode current, being applied to the amplifier 21, the anode of which is connected over the potential divider 25, 26 and associated compensating condensers 27, 28 to the grid of the cathode-ray tube 0. During the charging of condenser 10, when diode 12 is non-conducting, the potential of the grid of amplifier 21 falls, the rise in anode potential causing the brightening-up of the trace on the cathode-ray tube. The amplitude of the sawtooth may be adjusted by varying resistances 6, 7, 16, 17.
